Even as a child I loved movies and TV and was particularly drawn to stunts. I loved James Bond movies and thought the stunts were incredible. So when I met a stuntman in my 20’s I took it as a sign!
I spent the next four years training to become a stuntman – training in martial arts, fencing, trampolining, rock climbing, SCUBA diving and swimming.
In 2002 I joined the British Stunt Register – it was a huge achievement.
But it wasn’t until 2 years later that I got my first stunt “gig” on a film called Enduring Love!
Early Years
My first gig paid more than I had made in a month, in a week! Plus I loved every minute! Not many people get paid for having fun! I had “made it”, or so I thought! I was so excited to get the next job, but not much happened for a while. This was the nature of the stunt business. Long periods of waiting and unemployment seem to be the norm.
So I was back to driving a taxi, desk jobs and working on building sites, whatever work I could get.
Colt Severs – The Fall Guy
As a child I loved the TV show The Fall Guy! But even The Fall Guy aka Colt Severs, aka Lee Majors had another job. He worked as a bounty hunter when the stunt work wasn’t there.
So I opened a martial arts school in 2010 – the stunt work was quiet and I needed another income. I never knew when the phone would ring though and I’d be off on another job.
Just when you think about throwing in the towel, the phone can ring, and your situation can turnaround very quickly. One such job was on X-Men First Class doubling The Beast (played by Nicholas Hault).
Dream “Gig”
One year I got a dream gig of hanging from a helicopter! My dreams were turning true – I remembered the opening scene of The Fall Guy of a stuntman hanging from the skid of the helicopter!
Little did I know when I was booked that Bad Education The Movie was a comedy, and I’d be doing it naked!
